Crappy Tiramisu

Regarding your point about the crappy Tiramisu you get served in restaurants, let me add this story.

Pete and I were trying out a new Italian restaurant recommended by one of his co-workers called Mama Teresa's. After a lacklustre dinner I ordered Tiramisu for dessert. It was half frozen and not very good. I felt very cheated. The next week I was shopping in our local grocery store, and what to my amazement did I find in the bakery department sitting in the glass case with all the birthday cakes? The exact same Tiramisu! They had bought their Tiramisu from the same grocery store that sells birthday cakes made of ingredients only someone with a PhD in chemistry could duplicate. Shameful, shameful, shameful.

On the other hand, I worked for a top Italian restaurant in Toronto called Centro that made Tiramisu so fantastic once a man came to order it as a take away. We didn't even have take away containers, so we put this mass of creamy Tiramisu in tin foil completely ruining the presentation. The customer didn't care; he just wanted that Tiramisu.
