Traditional Italian Sauce

The great thing about this sauce is that you can use it as the base for so many different recipes. The key to an excellent tomato sauce is TIME. Cook it for at least 40 minutes for total deliciousness.

Ingredients:

Serves: 3-4
  • 1 finely chopped onion
  • 1 clove garlic, finely chopped
  • Olive oil
  • Bay leaf
  • 2 cans of chopped tomatoes
  • 1 tspn Italian herbs
  • Salt & pepper
  • 2 tblsp tomato sauce
Option (but a very delicious one): 1 glass red wine (that you would drink - NOT 'cooking wine' - poison)

Heat oil in saucepan. Add onion and garlic. Fry gently until soft. Add canned tomatoes, tomato sauce, bay leaf and red wine (if you are adding it). Stir well. Add salt & pepper and herbs. Simmer gently. Cover and let the magic happen (40 minutes min.)

Serve with:

Or add tuna just before serving. Serve with spaghetti & parmesan cheese.
