Egg in the hole
This recipe was sent in by George who appears to be obsessed by using the frypan. I do remember, though, when we were children, we thought these were the best things ever (apart from corn fritters). Its good as you can eat without a knife and fork. The little square can be used to mop up any yolk on the plate.
Serves 1
Takes about 5 - 10 minutes
Ingredients:
- 1 piece of bread
- butter
- 1 egg
- salt/pepper.
Instructions
- Cut a square in the middle of a piece of bread. The square should be about 5cm * 5cm.
- Place the bread and the square you cut out into a fry pan and lightly fry on both sides with a small amount of butter.
- Then crack one egg so that the yolk is in the middle of the hole.
- Fry on both sides till the egg is cooked to your liking.
Season with salt and pepper.
