Egg in the hole

Yes we really do make these - they do taste good This recipe was sent in by George who appears to be obsessed by using the frypan. I do remember, though, when we were children, we thought these were the best things ever (apart from corn fritters). Its good as you can eat without a knife and fork. The little square can be used to mop up any yolk on the plate.

Serves 1
Takes about 5 - 10 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1 piece of bread
  • butter
  • 1 egg
  • salt/pepper.

Instructions

  1. Cut a square in the middle of a piece of bread. The square should be about 5cm * 5cm. It is a very easy recipe
  2. Place the bread and the square you cut out into a fry pan and lightly fry on both sides with a small amount of butter.
  3. Then crack one egg so that the yolk is in the middle of the hole.
  4. Fry on both sides till the egg is cooked to your liking.
Season with salt and pepper.
